A Russian musical prodigy, who has played at the Carnegie Hall in New York will bring a popular Aberdeenshire arts event to a close later this month.

Aboyne and Deeside Festival organisers are hoping for a sell-out crowd when celebrated pianist, Pavel Kolesnikov, travels to the rural village for the event’s last hurrah.

The 27-year-old has performed at the Zankel Hall, within Manhattan’s Carnegie Hall, as well as London’s Royal Albert Hall, Berlin’s Konzerthaus, the Louvre in Paris and a host of other venues and festivals around the world.

Mr Kolesnikov took up studying the piano and violin at the age of six in his Serbian home.

He entered the Moscow State Conservatoire in 2007 before going on to study at London’s Royal College of Music and the Queen Eilisabeth Music Chapel in Belgium.

He gained fulsome critical plaudits in 2014, following a recital at the Wigmore Hall, and his star has been in the ascendancy evaer since.

Mr Kolesnikov’s talents will be on full display at the Aboyne Community Theatre on Saturday, September 17.

He will entertain his audience with music by Bach, Beethoven, Chopin and Debussy on the venue’s Bechstein grand piano.

Festival spokesman, Andrew Wilson, said Mr Kolesnikov was one of classical music’s “rising stars”.

He added: “He played this year in the BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall. He is playing a very, very popular and very challenging programme.

“It’s rare for a performer of his age and experience to be coming to Aboyne. We are very pleased to have someone of his high standard rounding off the festival.

“It is a very high-quality event to attract to Aboyne.”

The show will take place at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £18 for adults and £10 for students and under-16s.

Ten complimentary tickets are being offered to talented young piano students in the north-east.
