A talented north-east footballer has had to put had to put his bright future on hold after a horror dog attack.
Declan Milne, who plays for Montrose FC, required surgery after being savaged by two dogs in Aberdeen.
The 18-year-old is believed to have suffered serious damage to the tendons in his leg and ankle in the incident – and has now been ruled out of action for months.
Police have said they have no details of the attack but the former Ellon United player is now recovering at his home in the Bridge of Don area of the city.
Last night, the promising forward’s club manager said it was an “unfortunate event”.
Montrose boss Paul Hegarty said: “It was a really unfortunate event and it is disappointing for us and for Declan.
“He was needing game time to keep him sharp and it looked like he would get that at Carnoustie, however that will not be happening for a couple of months.”
It is understood that the former Bridge of Academy pupil was forced to attend a photo call for the side in crutches at the weekend.
He had been due to go on a loan spell with Angus junior side Carnoustie Panmure but his severe injuries have led to the deal being postponed.
Described as a tall and powerful player, he joined Montrose on a two-year professional contract in the summer of 2014, with a one year extension added to the deal earlier this year.
Last season, Mr Milne enjoyed loan spells with a number of clubs, including Ellon United, Glentanar FC and Forfar Albion before a first team return to Montrose.
He made his full debut on the final day of last season at Annan Athletic and has notched up 20 appearances for the Gable Endies, mainly from the bench.
Mr Milne’s last first team outing for the Angus club was as a late substitute appearance in the 2-0 League Two defeat to Stirling Albion on August 20.
