A young woman has appeared in court accused of causing the death of a dad-of-four.
Teenager Shari Dunbar is alleged to have been driving dangerously when she knocked down Nuno Barbara.
The 18-year-old – who was 17 when the accident happened – appeared in private on petition at Peterhead Sheriff Court yesterday.
She faced an allegation that she drove dangerously at the junction of Fraserburgh’s Castle Terrace and Quarry Road on September 3 last year and caused 43-year-old Mr Barbara’s death.
He was on his way home from work when he was hit by a blue Seat Ibiza.
The accident happened around 9.10pm.
Passersby went to Mr Barbara’s aid and the Portuguese national was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.
He died from his injuries four days later.
Dunbar, whose address was given in court papers simply as Aberdeenshire, made no plea during yesterday’s brief private hearing and was released on bail.
Mr Barbara had worked as a sales rep in the pharmaceutical industry in his native Portugal.
But he was unemployed for several years before he landed a job at the International Fish Canners plant in Fraserburgh’s Bath Street in October 2014.
After the tragic accident Nor-sea Foods, which operates International Fish Canners, paid tribute to a “well liked” member of its team.
Mr Barbara’s 46-year-old widow lives in Portugal with the couple’s children Tomas, 19, Mariana, 17, Frederico, 11, and four-year-old Miguel.
She paid tribute to her “hard working” husband.
Ms Marques, who runs her own translation business in Portugal, said: “He was working hard, away from his country, trying to provide for his family.”
