A north-east town’s Polish community has rallied together to help a sick five-year-old.
Franciszek ‘Frankie’ Wojcik, who turns six next month, suffers from a life-threatening condition called Biliary Atresia Cirrhosis, which can result in liver failure.
He has to travel to Brussels every year with his family to get specialist treatment, and now friends of his family who have made the move to Fraserburgh are raising funds to pay for his trip.
Milena Tkacz Dabrowska, who is organising and a fitness event this weekend for the youngster, said: “We’re trying to raise some money for my friend’s son who has this illness.
“He is too young to have a transplant from his dad and they need to wait until he is 10 or 12-years-old, so they need to go to Brussels every year.”
Frankie and his father will travel over from their home in Poland to Fraserburgh for the fundraising event which will be held at the town’s community and sports centre on Saturday.
Hosted by Ms Dabrowska’s gym, Polfit, there will be three hour-long fitness sessions. Anyone can attend.
The sessions start at 4pm and go on until 7pm, with donations to Frankie’s cause welcome.
John Stuart, who owns local business Caledonia Tree Care, along with other members of the gym has put up money for flights so that Frankie and his father can attend the event and is hoping they can raise enough to pay for the family’s journey to Brussels.
Mr Stuart said: “These trips are hugely expensive and we would very much like to support them during this very difficult time.”
