Sites for potential multimillion-pound schools in the Torry and Tillydrone areas of Aberdeen were selected by councillors yesterday.
Members of the council’s education committee followed officers’ recommendations and unanimously backed the current Torry Academy site as a future location for a £20million new primary following formal consultation.
It will also include a community centre.
The area, known as St Machar Park, has been selected as the preferred option for a new Tillydrone school, to replace the ageing St Peter’s facility and another non-denominational amenity, totalling £17million.
But it emerged that clearing the site of the new school could cost the council more than £6million due to a high level of peat on the site.
Members agreed to a detailed site survey and consultation before proceeding with any work.
