The family of a biker, who was killed in a north-east crash, have described him as “very much loved”.
Gary Andrew, 46, was travelling on an unlisted road, south of his home village of Cuminestown, on Thursday morning when he collided with a car at about 9am.
Mr Andrew’s red Suzuki GSX bike and the blue SsangYong Tivoli could be seen from the roadside while emergency services attended the scene, but, despite their efforts, the 46-year-old could not be saved.
His heartbroken family, who are believed to be local to the area, paid tribute to his life.
They released a statement yesterday which said: “We are all devastated at the sudden loss of Gary, a very much loved husband, son, son-in-law, brother and uncle, and a friend to many.
“He will be sorely missed.”
Yesterday, neighbours of Mr Andrew declined to comment on his death.
But Cuminestown councillor Sandy Duncan said that his heart “went out” to the family.
He added: “I’m sorry to hear about another fatal accident on our local roads.
“You can only think of their families at this time. My condolences go to them.”
Fellow Turriff and district councillor Alisan Norrie added: “An accident like this is a complete tragedy for the families affected.
“The Cuminestown community is a very tightly-knit one, and this incident will affect everyone terribly.
“My thoughts are with everyone concerned.”
The 50-year-old female driver of the car suffered only minor injuries.
Police have described the investigation into Mr Andrew’s death as ongoing, and have appealed for witnesses.
Sergeant Colin Matheson, who was leading operations at the crash scene on Thursday morning, said it was “too early” to reach any conclusions.
He added: “I would like to appeal to anyone who may have seen the incident and has not yet spoken to police to please come forward.
“Likewise, anyone who may have seen either vehicle in the moments leading up to the collision should also get in touch as we try to piece together exactly what happened.”
