Aberdeen City Council has won two accolades at a national transport awards ceremony.
The H2 Initiative – which brought the largest fleet of Hydrogen buses in Europe to the city – picked up the grand prix award and the transport initiative of the year at the Low Carbon Championship awards.
Aberdeen City Council leader Jenny Laing said: “The hydrogen buses project is a true city success story and it’s wonderful to see that recognised at a national level.
“The project was identified as helping to promote technology and jobs in an energy sector alternative to oil and gas.
“And with European Union funding secured, it has been due to the hard work by city council staff and the partners which has made it a good solid project.
“It’s the first step in making Aberdeen a leading city in demonstrating and developing H2 and fuel cell technologies.”
Derren Messem, chairman of the Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership, who judged the competition, added: “The UK vehicle industry continues to push the boundaries of innovation in low carbon technology, production and operation.
“This is essential to deliver the decarbonisation of transport needed to mitigate the worst effects of climate change and to improve air quality.”
