A man who left his Facebook followers terrified when he revealed he wanted to “slay” everyone in an Aberdeen shopping mall has walked free from court.
Jake Duguid, of the city’s Rowan Road, posted online about a “killing spree” before describing his urge to kill “everyone” in Union Square with an AK-47 assault rifle.
One woman was so concerned about the messages she called the police.
Yesterday, Duguid appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court after previously being given the chance to be of good behaviour.
Sheriff Alison Stirling acknowledged he had not offended since the incident in February.
The sheriff admonished Duguid and told him he was free to leave the court.
He had previously admitted posting the grossly offensive, indecent, obscene and menacing comments online.
But when he appeared in court in March he was given six months to prove he could stay out of trouble.
Court papers stated the 22-year-old “expressed a wish to shoot and kill members of the public”.
The woman had spotted the post on the social networking site while at home in Inverurie.
Duguid had stated: “It is funny how one song can make you want to go on a killing spree.”
He went on to describe his urge to kill “everyone” within the shopping centre.
After spotting the post, the woman informed the police, who went to interview Duguid.
During questioning, the first offender said he was sorry for writing the comments and said he never had any intention of hurting anyone.
He told police: “It was a meaningless comment. It was stupid. I would never have access to firearms to cause harm to others.
“I have no intentions to harm innocent people I never will. I’m totally against it.
“I am sorry I put the post up, I will take it down.”
