A businessman has promised extra odour-reduction measures and reduced opening hours in a bid to win support for a new takeaway.
Proposals to convert a well known Ellon toy shop into an outlet selling Asian food were withdrawn amid opposition from residents.
About 150 Ellon people signed a petition opposing the change of use application for premises at The Square, which they said would generate smell, noise, litter and traffic.
Many complained that there were already too many restaurants in the surrounding area.
Revised plans have now been tabled on behalf of Manawar Iqbal for a takeaway – with measures aimed at placating critics.
They include a 9pm closing time, although deliveries would continue until 11pm, and the installation of a system to neutralise cooking smells.
Signs telling people not to park on the street outside would also be erected.
Ellon Community Council members previously said they were “not convinced that this is a suitable location for a food takeaway” which would have a “huge impact on the local environment and residents.”
