Two Fraserburgh sisters with wildly different career aspirations were among the dozens who celebrated graduating from college over the weekend.

North East Scotland College held its graduation ceremony in Fraserburgh on Saturday, with students moving on to careers and universities across the country.

And for a pair of local sisters, their next steps will lead them in two very different paths.

Danielle and Chloe Pearson both attended Fraserburgh Academy before going to college.

But while Chloe, 21, took on mechanical engineering and on Saturday left the college with her HND, sister Danielle, 19, gained the same qualification in business studies.

On finishing her fifth year at Fraserburgh Academy, she was set on leaving school to concentrate her efforts on the subject.

Danielle said: “It was great being able to study close to home for two years but still have the opportunity to meet lots of new people from across the area.

“It was a big change from school – a completely different atmosphere – and it was a bit scary being so young but I soon found my feet.”

Chloe added: “I found my lecturers really supportive and helpful and enjoyed my time studying at the college.”

Both have secured third year places at the Robert Gordon University.

Chloe will be continuing her mechanical engineering studies and Danielle will be working towards a degree in business management with HR.

Danielle said: “We will both be moving to Aberdeen in September and will share a flat while we study. It’s a big step, but hopefully it will feel a bit like home because we’ll still see each other every day.”

Also among the graduates was 21-year-old Catherine Metcalfe.

Catherine spent time as a waitress before joining Peterhead engineering firm Score and passing her HNC at college.

She was presented with a special award for her work ethic at the graduation.

She said, “I was surprised and honoured to receive the prize. I really wasn’t expecting it but I’m glad all the hard work I put in during my studies has paid off.”
