Aberdeen City Council is set to launch a planning application to build a 700m dual carriageway as part of the Berryden Improvement Scheme.
The local authority has embarked on a screening exercise to determine whether a full environmental impact assessment is required in advance of the project.
A new map has shown the carriageway would run from Back Hilton Road and Ashgrove Road to Great Northern Road and St Machar Drive.
The council has already identified five properties on Powis Terrace which would be destroyed to allow the work to take place.
A spokeswoman said: “A screening letter was submitted to Aberdeen City Council’s planning authority as a precursor to submitting a formal planning application.
“The screening exercise is a required step to determine whether or not a full environmental assessment of the scheme is required to be submitted along with the planning application.
“Once the planning authority confirms what requires to be done, work will continue towards formally submitting the planning application in due course.”
Ross Grant, transport spokesman, added: “This marks another step forward with plans for the Berryden Corridor Improvement Scheme, which is key to improving traffic flows to and from the city centre.”
