An 11-year-old boy has been charged after eight cars were allegedly targeted in a vandalism spree in Aberdeen.
Officers were called to the Rockall Road and Rockall Place areas of Torry late on Tuesday evening after residents reported youths smashing their parked vehicles.
Hundreds of pounds worth of damage was caused in the incident.
The young criminals carved enormous scratches into the paintwork of the cars – sometimes with their initials – and damaged windows, ripped off registration plates and vandalised wing mirrors.
One of the victims of the crimes was Alasdair Shiach, 49, who had just spent more than £100 ensuring his car was ready for its next MOT.
Mr Shiach said: “I’m happy that somebody has been caught, but it’s a big problem in the area.
“I’ve been living in Torry for 48 years and this kind of problem keeps cropping up, so the police and the council need to really work harder to stop it.
“Earlier this week, there were kids throwing rocks at windows here.
“I don’t see how these kids can get any sort of satisfaction out of doing this, it’s just completely beyond me.”
Sergeant John Lumsden confirmed police were actively cracking down on youth crime across the Torry area.
He said: “Operation Smallwood is ongoing in Torry to tackle youth annoyance and anti-social behaviour.
“While an 11-year-old boy has been charged in relation to the vandalism of eight vehicles, our inquiries remain ongoing.
“We would ask anyone who saw anything suspicious to contact us on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 if they wish to remain anonymous.
“We would also urge anyone with concerns in their neighbourhood to report these to us.”
The boy will be reported to the Youth Management Unit.
