Work to upgrade a section of a busy north-east route will begin this weekend.
The £90,000 resurfacing works on the A90 Peterhead to Fraserburgh road, south of Gash, will begin on Sunday.
It will be carried out overnight, from 7.30pm, and is expected to take two nights. It is due to be finished by rush hour on Tuesday morning.
A convoy system will be in place on both nights to “ensure the safety” of workers in the road as well as the travelling public.
Andy Thompson, the north-east representative for roads authority Bear Scotland’s, said: “These essential resurfacing improvements will address any defects in the road surface, enhancing road safety in this area.
“We’ve taken steps to minimise disruption for motorists by scheduling the work to take place overnight, and planning the resurfacing to be completed in two nights to limit any impact.
“We encourage motorists to plan their journeys in advance by checking the Traffic Scotland website for real time journey information and allow some extra time to reach their destination.”
Materials removed from the existing carriageway will be recycled.
Last night local resident Ian Campbell, secretary of the Rathen, Memsie and District Community Council, welcomed the work.
“It’s certainly in need of an upgrade to the surface – it has needed it for a number of years. The community council regularly informs them of this.
“I’m delighted to hear the work is taking place.”
Around a mile south of Gash the junction at Cortes – a notorious accident blackspot – is currently being resurfaced.
North-east transport partnership Nestrans is currently working on a study of the A90 corridor from Aberdeen to Peterhead and Fraserburgh amid calls for the trunk route to be transformed into a dual carriageway.
