A newly-refurbished north-east hotel is in contention for a prestigious accolade.
Douneside House, near Tarland, has been shortlisted for the 2017 Conde Nast Johansens Hotel Awards for Excellence in the Best Newcomer category.
The prizes were created to acknowledge and celebrate excellence across the world of hotels, spas and venues.
As the publishers of Vogue, GQ and Glamour, Conde Nast Johansens is widely regarded as the leading guide for luxury independent travellers.
Douneside House was the ancestral home of three airmen brothers, who perished during World War II.
Following their deaths, their mother, Lady Rachel MacRobert, set up a trust for the armed forces, which has so far donated millions to charitable organisations.
The house was re-opened this year by His Royal Highness, Prince Michael of Kent, following an extensive £5million renovation.
This included a transformation of the interior and exterior facilities, such as all guest bedrooms, the restaurant, conservatory and other public spaces within the main house, as well as on-site holiday cottages and apartments.
The refurbished health club now features a fitness gym with upgraded equipment, a swimming pool, jacuzzi, steam and sauna rooms and aerobics studio.
The house made the top three for the UK and Ireland category and will be up against Cadogan Gardens in London and Crossbasket Castle near Glasgow.
Marcel Wassen, general manager of Douneside House, said: “We are delighted to be shortlisted for this award.
“Douneside is a truly special place and it’s fantastic that this is being recognised – particularly since we only reopened in June.”
