An Aberdeen park, described as a “vital leisure venue” on the city’s Cromwell Road, will be re-opened on Monday.
Harlaw playing fields have been closed for five months while remedial work was carried out to repair a sinkhole.
The grounds were sealed off on May 24 and have remained shut to ensure the safety of youths and other people who use the field.
But now, they will be open to the public again, following a methodical operation to resolve the problem at the site.
Aberdeen City Council Communities, Housing and Infrastructure convener, Neil Cooney, said: “It is great news the Harlaw playing fields are set to re-open on Monday.
“Council staff have done an excellent job in repairing the site, and we appreciate everyone’s patience and support during this time.”
Cllr Martin Greig has fought a persistent campaign to re-open the Harlaw Playing Field and added: “The closure dealt a considerable low to the local community.
“It particularly affected young people and deprived them access to a vital leisure venue.”
“It is unacceptable the field was abandoned for almost half a year. Obviously, there are very few leisure spaces in the area and the loss of such a valued green space has been hugely regretted by residents.”
“Schools have also been affected and have had to find alternative venues. Some have had problems with finding transport to get the students to the new venues.
“The closure was completely unnecessary and it is deeply unfair that the community was treated like this.”
