Police have issued an appeal for witnesses following a deliberate fire at an old north-east hotel.
The alarm was raised at around 9pm on Monday of a well-established fire at the Old Station Hotel on Seaforth Street, Fraserburgh.
Police cordoned off the road and the building was evacuated.
The old hotel is now used as flats and it is understood there is extensive damage to the interior of the building.
Following a joint investigation between police and the fire service today (Tuesday October 25), officers are now treating the incident as suspicious.
Detective Sergeant George Nixon, who is leading the investigation, said: “I would urge anyone with information to contact police as soon as possible.
“Thankfully no one was hurt and everyone in the building accounted for, however it goes without saying that the consequences of such reckless behaviour could have had fatal consequences.
“Anyone with information should contact Police on 101 or Crimestoppers if you would prefer to remain anonymous on 0800 555111.”
