Police last night charged a 28-year-old man in connection with the murder of Robert Reid in Aberdeen earlier this week.
Officers confirmed the man is expected to appear at Aberdeen Sheriff Court today.
A major police operation was launched after Mr Reid, 26, was found dead in a top floor flat on Arnage Place on Wednesday morning.
Neighbours reported an alleged disturbance in the early hours of the morning before the emergency services discovered Mr Reid’s body.
Witnesses said the victim, who had a young son with his fiance, Jackie Hanratty, was seen at around 1.45am outside the property, following a loud argument.
He was found dead by emergency services at around 5am on Wednesday.
In the aftermath of the incident, police investigation teams remained active in the area.
Forensics specialists, wearing white suits and masks, could be seen going in and out of the property and examining the crime scene for clues to help establish the circumstances surrounding the death.
Officers were also in place for much of the day at a nearby property in the Willowpark Place area of Mastrick as part of the investigation.
Nearby residents said police were carrying out door-to-door inquiries around Arnage Place, Arnage Terrace, Arnage Drive and other streets close to the scene, and scanning nearby gardens with metal detectors.
Specialist investigators from Dundee and Inverness have also offered their resources to the Aberdeen police inquiry.
Last night, floral tributes were placed outside the home of Mr Reid, where he lived with his fiance and son.
Mr Reid had been a celebrated amateur boxer, and took part in the sport alongside his older brother, Stewart.
The duo were successful in a number of high profile competitions.
Yesterday, Aberdeen Amateur Boxing Club, based at the Cummings Park Community Centre, paid tribute to their former star member.
In a statement, the group said: “It is with much sadness that the Aberdeen Boxing Club has heard of the tragic death of former Aberdeen Boxing Club member Robert Reid.
“Robert was an outstanding junior boxer with the club who, along with his brother Stewart, both picked up Scottish junior and youth titles in what were both very successful careers.
“Our thoughts are very much with Robert’s family right now, his mum and dad and his brother Stewart at this time.
“Rest in peace Robert.”
Detective Inspector Gary Winter said: “Firstly, our thoughts are with Robert’s family who are still coming to terms with his death.
“There’s no doubt that this incident will cause concern within the community, but I would like to stress we are treating this as an isolated and contained matter.”
Police have asked any witnesses, or anyone with information relating to the alleged murder to phone 101, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 if you wish to remain anonymous.
