Plans to create a community centre in an Aberdeenshire town will take a significant step forward next week.
Initial designs for the proposed Inverurie Community Campus will be unveiled by Aberdeenshire Council.
The new development will include school and sports facilities, a games hall, dance studio, fitness suite, swimming pool and more.
The council is seeking permission from the Education, Learning and Leisure committee in December to begin a formal consultation on proposals to relocate the specialist St Andrews School to the new campus.
If agreed, the consultation would last from January until the end of February.
Maria Walker, director of Education and Children’s Services at the authority said: “The campus represents a new era for education, community and leisure facilities in Inverurie.
“It is a hugely significant project for the town which will bring together school pupils and their families, staff and sports enthusiasts and communities who will use the new facilities.
“The council has already committed to £25million as part of our capital plan to contribute towards the cost of the new campus, and we have secured a further £24.8million from the Scottish Government.”
Members of the public will be able to have their say on the project at a drop-in session held in the Assembly Hall at Inverurie Academy between 10am and 9pm on November 9.
The community will be invited to meet representatives from Halliday Fraser Munro, the architects behind the scheme.
Ms Walker added: “The drop-in being held in November will give more people the chance to have their say on what the new campus could look like and I hope my excitement in the project will be shared by them.”
