An Aberdeen couple’s home will be transformed into the Munsters with skeletons, skulls and the spirits of the afterlife to help raise funds for charity.
Every year, Scott and Claire Graham create a Halloween display at their Fernielea Crescent house, which sends shivers down the spines of old and young alike.
This year, the couple’s theme is the Dia de Muertos, or the Day of the Dead, a Mexican festival where people gather to commemorate family members and loved ones who have died.
The Grahams have chosen to donate money to cancer charity Ucan, and will be collecting cash from guisers.
Mr Graham said: “We have been doing it for a few years now, and it was two years ago we got the idea to start raising money when someone asked if it was for charity.
“Both of our families have been affected by cancer, so we will have collection tins outside, and we’ve got our neighbours involved too.
“We noticed that when we moved in that no one in the street really did much for it and liked the idea of doing something.
“Now we’re well-known as the house that puts on a big show.”
The couple got the idea for this year’s theme after watching the most recent James Bond film, Spectre, whose opening sequence features a Day of the Dead parade in Mexico City.
Their theme has even won the support of Mexican street food restaurant, Muchacho, on the city’s Rose Street.
The business has organised a face painting day to raise funds for the Graham’s chosen charity and will also hand over a cash donation.
Mr Graham added: “We would be doing it anyway, so it’s nice to be able to give back to Ucan.
“We’ll just be inviting in people who are guising, it’s in a gazebo so everything’s under cover.
“The groups of little ones come round and we give them sweets and a prize for the best-dressed.
“But the best ones are the cocky teenagers who think they can’t be frightened, last year one of them lost his shoe and he ran away so quickly.”
The display, at 12 Fernielea Crescent, will take place from 6.30pm to around 9pm.
