Aberdeen driver ran red light and crashed into another car

An Aberdeen man has been warned he could go to prison after admitting driving through a red light and crashing into another car.

Lewis Bowyer, of Seaton Walk, appeared at the city’s sheriff court yesterday where he pleaded guilty to driving his friend’s car at “excessive speed” and failing to stop for a police vehicle, prior to the accident on August 22.

The 18-year-old also admitted driving while disqualified and without insurance.

The court heard Bowyer had taken a friend’s car and was driving to another friend’s home when he did not comply with the red light on John Street, causing him to collide with another vehicle.

Sheriff Christine McCrossan deferred sentence and considered remanding Bowyer in custody until his next appearance later this month.

But she stated that, given his young age and his recent employment as a kitchen porter, she would grant bail.

She warned that custody may be an option for the court.
