North-east residents will head to the polling station today to vote in two new councillors.
The by-elections for Banff and Inverurie districts have been called following the death of SNP councillor Ian Gray and the resignation of council co-leader Martin Kitts-Hayes.
Independent Mr Kitts-Hayes – who held a seat in Inverurie for 13 years – quit his post in September after a row over his decision to walk out of the North Sea Commission at Legoland in Denmark because he was unhappy with his accommodation.
SNP stalwart Mr Gray, 73, served Portsoy and the wider area for nine years as part of the local authority.
The candidates for Banff and District are the Lib Dem’s Alistair Mason, the SNP’s Glen David Reynolds and the Conservative’s Iain Taylor.
In Inverurie and District, they are the SNP’s Neil Baillie, the Lib Dem’s Alison Auld, Conservative Colin Clark and Labour’s Sarah Flavell.
Council chief executive Jim Savege said: “I would encourage everyone to vote and make sure their voice is heard.
“Councillors have an important role in many of the major decisions that affect people’s lives across Aberdeenshire.
“They are responsible for ensuring the council has a clear direction, accountability and represents the community they are elected to serve.”
Polls will open at 7am. The count will be held at the Garioch Sports Centre, Inverurie from 10am tomorrow.
