The cost of staging the event in Aberdeen has been estimated to be around £150,000.
The Great Scottish Run in Glasgow generates around £4.3million to the wider economy, and it has been estimated Aberdeen’s event could generate around £2.4million.
This year’s Great Scottish Run also raised more than £3.5million for charity, thanks to the large number of runners who participate for a cause.
It is estimated that runners attending similar events spend an average of £83.34 per trip, while spectators spend an average of £53.33 per person, with the greatest expenditure for both being food and drink.
In another event held by the Great Run Company, 23% of runners stayed overnight.
Of those, 96% of stayed overnight in the host region, with 40% in a hotel.
Around 84% of the spectators were from the host region.
The scheme also brings people to areas of the UK they have never been to before – in another example event, 10% of visiting runners were in the region for the very first time.
51% of runners at the event said they were likely to return, 48% said their view of the host region had positively changed, and 88% rated the host city as a good or excellent place to visit.
