A Scottish beauty queen has made an impressive start to her ambitious £50,000 fundraising initiative for children, stricken with life-changing disease.
Miss Scotland, Lucy Kerr, travelled to renowned restaurant, Eat on the Green, and joined Aberdeenshire’s “kilted chef”, Craig Wilson, to launch her campaign to raise cash for Action Medical Research.
The Udny Green eatery organised a ladies day to raise funds on Saturday after Mr Wilson bumped into the 19-year-old earlier in the year.
A total of 50 local women showed up for the event, which included an afternoon of food dished up by the chef – served by kilted butlers – and live music from singer Billy Main.
The event, which has been held in aid of good causes for the past four years, raised £1,000 for Glaswegian Ms Kerr’s £50,000 fundraising mission.
Last night, Mr Wilson said he and the beauty queen had a shared love of tartan, after finding out she had a different kilt for every month.
He added: “We have done quite a bit for Action Medical Research, so we were familiar with the charity. I just met her at an event and I said: ‘we’d love to help you’.
“She hadn’t been up in this area. We had an auction item and also had a game at the start where the ladies filled the sporrans of me and the two kilted butlers.
“It was just a bit of fun. I am in complete awe of how generous and positive the whole room was. It was really nice for somebody coming to the area for the first time.
“I interviewed her in front of everybody and I was intrigued to see if she had any cooking skills and the best and worst things about being Miss Scotland. We wished her success for the campaign.”
