Controversial plans for a retirement village, sports complex and shopping development in an Aberdeen suburb will go through a second round of public consultation this week.
The scheme for the 24-acre site, south of North Deeside Road between Garthdee and Cults, was unveiled by Charles Ferrari and David Suttie, of the Cults Property Development Company, earlier this year.
The plan includes a community retirement village, encompassing a 40-bed care home, community shopping and a wide variety of retirement units including two-storey townhouses, two and three-bedroom apartments and three bedroom duplexes.
The project also features a proposal to create a new road through the complex and over the railway line, which Mr Ferrari and Mr Suttie have claimed will come at no cost to the taxpayer – if the project is approved.
A public consultation was previously held in September. And now, a second date has been set for Wednesday, November 9, from 1pm to 7pm at the Marcliffe Hotel on North Deeside Road.
The developers and members of the design team behind the project will be on hand to speak to visitors and answer any questions.
Paul O’Connor MBE, chairman of the Inchgarth Community Centre in Garthdee, said he had “serious concerns” about the proposed link road.
He added: “I would really encourage the people of Garthdee to go along and see these plans which could have huge impacts on the future of the area.
“Nobody, I think, has a problem with the development itself, but there are serious concerns about this link road.
“There has never been proper provision of infrastructure in Garthdee and to potentially add the option for yet more traffic to go through is madness. ”
However, Guus Glass of Cults Community Council was generally in favour of the plan, arguing the sports complex would bring “something new” to the area.
Charlie Ferrari of Cults Development Company Ltd said yesterday: “We greatly appreciate the contribution of all interested parties to the consultation process and hope people will take this latest opportunity to come along and view the updated proposals.”
