War of words over delay to park and ride

Aberdeen council chiefs have been slated after it emerged part of a flagship transport project would be delayed for a least a month.

Opposition SNP councillors expressed outrage at the revelation the Dyce Park and Ride will not open next month.

The A96 Park and Choose was due to relieve traffic pressure on the A96 on the journey to Aberdeen airport.

SNP Group leader, Stephen Flynn, said: “If administration councillors had focused on their day job instead of making grand, uncosted pronouncements about rail links, this vital facility could already be open.

“Instead, people across our city have had to suffer and will continue to suffer increased congestion and traffic jams.

“After the Third Don Crossing debacle, I had hoped they would learn their lesson, but instead the people of Aberdeen will be left thinking ‘here we go again’.”

Dyce, Bucksburn and Danestone councillor, Neil MacGregor, added: “Only now do they concede that the delays will continue beyond the festive period and into the new year.”

However, council leader Jenny Laing hit back: “Disappointingly, once again the SNP criticise the investment being made in our city.

“This is not surprising as their only achievement in office was £127m of budget cuts.

“Councillor Flynn is factually incorrect as the recent opening of the new Dyce Drive Link Road between Argyll Road and the A96 (T) has already had a significant beneficial impact on the flow of traffic and a reduction in congestion in that area, particularly at peak times.”
