A lifeboat was called out yesterday to respond to an emergency at a north-east harbour.
Peterhead’s Tamar-class vessel, The Misses Robertson of Kintail, was launched by request of the coastguard shortly after 12pm to deal with what was described as an emergency at its north breakwater.
A speedboat had broken down near the harbour wall in Peterhead Harbour and was in danger of colliding with it.
A spokesman for the lifeboat confirmed that two men were aboard.
He added: “The boat had engine failure. The lifeboat took the casualty in tow, and recovered it to Peterhead marina.
“The lifeboat was then stood down and returned to its berth at 1.30pm.”
Three-foot swells were reported at the time of the incident.
Coastguard teams were alerted to the broken down vessel at the entrance to the port just before 11.55am.
A spokeswoman said: “Teams were getting worried because the boat was getting closer to the harbour wall.”
Nobody was reported as injured following the rescue.
