An Aberdeen street name is finally being changed after years of takeaways, letters and taxis being sent out to incorrect addresses.
Newlands Crescent has been a part of the Broomhill area of the city since the 1930s.
But problems started to arise two years ago, when a new street in Cove was also dubbed Newlands Crescent.
Despite them having different postcodes and being around four miles apart, residents in both streets have been dealing with unwanted pizzas, post, parcels and other deliveries arriving at their doors ever since.
But now, following consultation in both areas, Aberdeen City Council has decided to rename the street in Cove to Langdykes Gardens.
Broomhill councillor Ian Yuill, who has campaigned for a solution to the problem, stated he was happy with the council’s choice.
Mr Yuill said: “I have been arguing that the council should make good their mistake and rename the Cove street for a number of years.
“This has caused a lot of problems with local people, in both Newlands Crescents, so I encouraged residents to tell the council.
“They undertook a survey of both sets of residents, and they both seemed pretty keen to get it sorted out.
“I am a little annoyed that it has taken two years to get sorted, but I am glad the council seems to be close to finding a solution.”
During the consultation, one resident from the Broomhill Newlands Crescent said: “It was ridiculous to give a new street the name of an existing street.
“Mail has been incorrectly delivered to my house even though it had the Cove postal code on the envelope and not my postal code.
“It is worrying to think that mail intended for my family members could have been delivered elsewhere and then simply binned or not forwarded properly to the correct street.”
A spokesman for Aberdeen City Council added: “After further discussion and consideration, we have taken the decision to proceed with plans to rename the street in question to ensure the best long-term solution for residents and other road users.
“The intention is to change the name from Newlands Crescent in Cove to Langdykes Gardens in Cove.
“The statutory process will be advertised from November 16 and representations can be made for a period of 28 days from then.”
