An online campaign has been launched to try and help track down a former north-east student who is wanted in connection with the murder of a colleague.
Harris Binotti, who studied at the Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen, fled the city of Rangoon in Myanmar, formerly Burma, more than a week ago after his colleague Gary Ferguson was found dead in his flat.
It is alleged the two men had been out drinking when a fight broke out outside Binotti’s flat in the early hours of Saturday.
Mr Ferguson’s Thai wife found him with head and chest wounds lying in Binotti’s flat on Sunday after he failed to return home.
Now his family has launched a Facebook appeal in an effort to trace Binotti, who has not been seen since the day before the body was discovered.
It is understood that Binotti took a flight to neighbouring Thailand through Thai Airways, but could potentially have now travelled to nearby Cambodia.
Mr Ferguson’s brother, Martin, has shared an image of the suspect on his Facebook account which has now been shared nearly 200 times.
Martin, from Bangor, County Down, has thanked people for their assistance.
He said: “Our love and gratitude goes to you all for all your help. Mum, Rose, Donna, Martin, Nong and Jeremy and all others that have been deeply filled with sadness and disbelief.”
It is understood that Interpol are now leading the investigation into Binotti’s whereabouts.
