A popular Aberdeen music festival has announced plans to allow under-18s to attend.
The Enjoy Music Festival, which takes place annually in the city’s Hazelhead Park, attracted more than 3,700 people earlier this year.
Organiser Russell Aitchison today revealed a host of new additions to be made to next year’s event, including a funfair and family entertainment area.
He said: “Under-18s and family festivals are very popular and we have other models around the UK that we are looking at.
“We wanted to start as something small and prove to everyone in Aberdeen it could work, which it has.
“It’s a natural progression to let under-18s in and this is why we are now doing this.
“We want a festival for everyone to enjoy.
“We will have a much bigger crowd too and we will have bigger attractions next year.
“Having under-18s at something like this has never happened in Aberdeen before.
“We really have something unique here, like nowhere else in Scotland.
“For other events, you always have to camp and travel miles outwith the city.”
Due to increased interest in the event, Russell also announced that he will introduce a retro stage, VIP area and tiki cocktail bar.
Last year’s festival was thrown into controversy when headliner Tinie Tempah pulled out just hours before he was due to appear.
Despite the let down, Russell expects thousands more will attend the event next year.
“For next year we would expect more than 5,000 people to attend, but with the inclusion of under-18s who knows where it can go,” he said. “It’s an exciting time.
Tickets for next year’s event will go on sale on Friday, December 2, from 9am.
