Liam Smith is one of more than a dozen young men who have spent most of their adult lives flitting in and out of detention because of their “addiction” to fast cars.
The members of the gang who carry out the raids are well known to the police – and are arrested time and time again.
But curfews, driving bans and numerous bail orders have all failed to stop them from stealing cars.
In July 2013, Smith, Blair Thomson and another youth made off with a Porsche, a Toyota Land Cruiser, an Audi, and an Aston Martin from oil tycoon Sean Dreelan’s mansion at Banchory Devenick.
Earlier this year it was revealed almost £37,000 of taxpayers’ money had been spent on legal aid for Smith alone – more than any other gang member.
