Alex Salmond has accused Labour of becoming “more infantile by the day” after the party questioned his Commons voting record.
A spokesman for the former first minister said it obviously would not be as high because until May of this year he was also voting in the Scottish Parliament as an MSP.
He added: “In addition, he is speaking and voting in the Council of Europe in Strasbourg as one of the House of Commons’ chosen representatives several weeks of the year.”
The spokesman insisted parliamentary activity as an MP was best measured by interventions in the chamber.
He added: “According to House of Commons Library figures published last year on that measure, Alex Salmond ranked sixth out of 650 MPs.
“At that stage only the speaker, leader of the House, the then prime minister, chancellor and foreign secretary had spoken more.
“In other words Alex at that time had spoken more than every Labour MP in the Commons.”
