A man who was caught red-handed in an Aberdeen flat with £38,800 of crack cocaine has been jailed for four years and eight months.
Welsey Johnson admitted being concerned in the supply of the drug at a flat in Bedford Place, Aberdeen, on August 30 and 31.
The 45-year-old appeared at Glasgow High Court yesterday.
The court heard police had raided the flat after receiving a tip-off that drugs were on the premises.
Advocate depute Bill McVicar, prosecuting, said that Johnson had told officers exactly where it was by saying “You will find it anyway, it’s in the kitchen cupboard.”
They found a clear bag with multiple hard white wraps in one of the cupboards.
Another bag containing cocaine was also found in the living room. Drug paraphernalia was also found in the flat.
Mr McVicar said: “The maximum potential value if sold in the lowest street deal has been estimated at £38,800.
“It is accepted that the accused that been directed by another person of persons in relation to the storage, handling, weighing and distribution of cocaine.
“It is clear that the accused had been given the quantities of cocaine and told what he should do with the product.”
The advocate depute said Johnson was from Wolverhampton, but had been staying in the flat in Aberdeen.
He added: “He had travelled to Aberdeen and was to receive payment for his role, but was not directly involved in the receipt on profits.
“He has convictions for robbery, theft and in 2004 in London he was jailed for 14 years for causing grievous bodily harm and being in possession of a firearm.”
Defence advocate Michael Anderson told the court that Johnson has made “a wrong choice” when he was penniless and homeless.
Judge Lord Burns told Johnson that but for his early plea of guilty he would have jailed him for seven years.
