A man was airlifted to hospital on Sunday after a serious collision between a car and a quad bike on a north-east road.
The incident, which also led to a woman being hospitalised, happened at around 12.50pm, three miles north of Strichen, on the A981 Strichen to Fraserburgh road.
Police, paramedics and two fire appliances attended the scene at the junction of the A981 and an unclassified road to the nearby village of Rathen.
An air ambulance was also radioed to transport the male driver of the small quadbike to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. The helicopter landed in a field near the crash site.
It is understood the male casualty, who was riding a small red and black quad bike, sustained injuries to his feet.
The woman, who was driving a white Toyota Yaris, was treated by paramedics at the scene and also transferred to ARI. The extent of her injuries is not known.
Police officers closed several miles of the carriageway while paramedics attended to the two drivers and traffic was diverted along single-track roads.
A spokesman for the police said the collision was “not considered to be life-threatening.”
A source from the fire brigade added: “We assisted with two casualties who have now been transferred to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.”
The road reopened to traffic in both directions at around 2.45pm.
In April last year, a man was airlifted from another crash on the A981 near Maud after sustaining injuries when two vans collided.
Craig Babington, 42, was rushed to intensive care in Aberdeen after breaking all the ribs down one side of his body.
He was later fitted for a pacemaker and married his fiance in the hospital chapel after their wedding was delayed following his admission to intensive care.
