A bowling club could install CCTV to protect it from vandals.
Grandholm Bowling Club has been repeatedly damaged, and on Sunday a fire broke out in the nearby Bleachfield House.
The derelict building, which borders the green, was set on fire at about 4.10pm and police are now investigating the matter.
Last night, club president Eric Jamieson said members had considered getting CCTV to address the “ridiculous situation” but since they are small club, it would be difficult.
Firefighters managed to extinguish Sunday’s blaze within half an hour, but police remained at the scene for some time afterwards.
It is the second time this month that officers have been called to the area, with vandals smashing through a wall of the bowling club and damaging the pavilion the previous week.
It has also been broken into on at least three further occasions this year, and Bleachfield House also been set on fire in the past.
Mr Jamieson said: “The fire was at the empty house next to our bowling green, it’s been derelict for about two years and keeps getting targeted.
“The windows are all boarded up, they’re supposed to be secure but people can still get through.
“We were lucky this time that it didn’t spread across to the clubhouse.
“Last week they couldn’t get into our clubhouse through the doors, so they took a piece of pipe that they found and burst a hole through the wall to get in.
“It’s already been repaired, but it’s a major inconvenience to our greenkeeper who has to fix everything.
“He’s an ex-joiner, but he’s 84-years-old – he shouldn’t be having to do these repair jobs every few days.”
Bleachfield House has been empty for at least two years.
Mr Jamieson said: “We’ve thought about CCTV, but we’re a small club, we’ve only got about 20 members, and to go to the extent of spending hundreds of pounds to try and protect our club would be very difficult for us.
“It’s a ridiculous situation to me, it’s just wanton vandalism by people with no respect for anything or anybody.”
A police spokeswoman said: “Police are investigating a wilful fire-raising at a derelict building next to Grandholm Bowling Club at around 4.15pm on Sunday, November 27.
“Inquiries are ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101.”
