Proposals for the 540-pupil replacement of Market Place School in Inverurie were backed by Aberdeenshire Council earlier in the year. And the local authority’s Garioch area committee have agreed to call it Uryside School, the most popular title from a list of seven. As part of the plans, Inverurie’s current Market Place School will close during the 2016-17 term and be replaced by the completely new building. An online consultation into the naming of the new facility was held earlier in the year, with 722 people taking part. Locals turned down the chance to name the building after Lethenty Mill, just north of Inverurie, which was destroyed in a huge blaze on April 28. Other names in the frame were Bennachie View School, New Market School, Inverurie Market Place School, New Market Place School and Osprey School. Uryside School emerged on top with 39% of the vote.
