A suspended “halo” of light is one of the most striking elements of the new plans.
The “major” piece will be suspended above a central area aiming to act “as a beacon to attract footfall into and around the gardens” and may improve safety in the park, which has been the scene of a number of high-profile attacks.
It is just one of the new lighting projects put forwards in the plans, with lights on the walkways and arches also included.
In June, it was announced that work on a separate £50,000 safety upgrade for the gardens was getting started.
Council chiefs approved the funds, with massive new lighting works planned to “bring life” to the greenspace at night.
