The funeral of a north-east man who died unexpectedly while travelling overseas will take place on Monday. John Slater, from Kincorth, Aberdeen, was on a working holiday in Christchurch, New Zealand when he died last month. The 26-year-old’s brothers Kenneth and Chris were forced to make the heartbreaking trip to repatriate him, along with two of their friends. They were then caught up in a deadly earthquake, which had a magnitude of 7.8, in which two people were killed. Mr Slater’s funeral will be held at the west chapel of Aberdeen Crematorium at 11am. He is survived by his brothers and mother, Angela McDonald.
