A major north-east commuter route will be permanently closed to traffic in the new year to make way for the £750million Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route (AWPR).
The C89C between Chapel of Stoneywood and Fairley Road, north of the Kirkhill crossroads will no longer be in use from January 9, 2017.
Motorists will therefore be forced to join the A96 Aberdeen to Inverness road by turning right onto Forrit Brae from the Kirkhill crossroads before taking a left turn onto the dual carriageway.
Those then wishing to travel into Aberdeen on the A96 will need to continue up to the Craibstone roundabout where they can turn and re-join the eastbound A96.
There will no longer be a right-hand turn onto Forrit Brae from the A96 and drivers will have to travel to the Bankhead roundabout and travel back along the A96 to make a left-hand turn onto Forrit Brae.
Access to the Craibstone Golf course will remain unaffected, south-bound from Chapel of Stoneywood and north-bound by turning left at the Kirkhill crossroads.
Last night an AWPR spokesman said: “It has been well publicised that a section of the C896 will have to permanently close as part of the works.
“The permanent closure of this 200m section will allow the AWPR to be constructed through the closed road, eventually linking up to the new bridge spanning the A96 west of the Craibstone roundabout.”
A Transport Scotland community liaison team is on the process of informing affected local residents and the local business community and will also be placing signs on the road to notify road users of the changes to road layouts.
