A north-east church will once again host its Christmas Eve service – but this year it will be a little different.
A donkey called Jason will take centre stage at the Midmar Church on December 24.
While Jason will be the only animal involved in the service inside, outside families can meet a Highland cow, a calf, lambs and a Shetland pony.
The church’s Reverend Elspeth McKay said it was the first time they had done anything like this.
She said: “It is going to be great to have the animals come for the service.
“People often say I am like the Vicar of Dibley, so I see this as channelling my inner Vicar of Dibley.
“I think it is really important we are reminded Jesus was born in a stable with all the animals.
“This is one of the main reasons why we decided to do this.”
She added that she doesn’t think she’ll get nervous about having Jason the donkey on stage.
“It will be funny to see Jason on stage, however, I am looking forward to seeing so many people come to the service.
“I couldn’t have done this service without the congregation, thy have been brilliant.”
The service begins at 4pm and a shuttle bus is available, picking people up from Midmar Hall.
and will be joined by a Highland cow, a calf, lambs and a Shetland pony.
