An Aberdeen councillor has announced she will stand down next year, after 20 years of service.
Bridge of Don councillor Muriel Jaffrey will not run again at next year’s council elections.
The 77-year-old has fought for a variety of community issues over her time at the Town House, including the area’s community centre.
She said she is stepping down due to her age.
Mrs Jaffrey said: “I simply can’t work full time at my age. I’m too old.
“I have achieved a lot in Bridge of Don.
“For example, I got £180,000 spent on the Bridge of Balgownie.
“I got a crossing on Balgownie Road too. I helped the community centre. You can visibly see the stuff I have done.”
A number of other prominent Aberdeen councillors have also announced they will not be seeking reelection in May.
The Lord Provost George Adam, infrastructure committee convener Neil Cooney, George Street and Harbour councillor Nathan Morrison and long-serving Labour councillor Len Ironside will all leave the city council.
Mrs Jaffrey added: “I will miss it a lot. I enjoy the job, but my age has caught up with me. I can’t commit to five years at the age of 77.”
