Aberdeen’s Christmas tree is to be pulped and turned into paper and other products, council chiefs have announced.
At the end of the Castlegate tree’s spell in the city centre it will be taken away for recycling.
And city residents are being advised of collection dates to put out their own trees at the end of the festive period.
Households with wheely bins can have theirs collected on their normal brown bin collection day between January 6 and 20 by leaving their trees at the kerbside or next to the brown bin.
Collections from communal bins, both on and off street, begin on January 6 for addresses on and south of Beach Boulevard, Justice Street, Castlegate, Union Street, Albyn Place, Queens Road and Skene Road.
For all addresses north of those streets, collections will commence on January 9 and continue through the month.
Jean Morrison, zero waste sub-committee convener at the council, said that the drive was part of the city’s “circular economy”.
She said: “We are announcing Christmas tree collection dates in good time so that households can have their trees ready to be picked up.
“People can also take their trees to any of our five recycling centres across the city, if they prefer. The trees will be used for composting and so contribute to the circular economy”
