An Aberdeen University professor has said it is “lovely” to be recognised for “getting the task done”.
Emeritus Professor Jonathan Stephens, who has been made a MBE, said it was a “great honour” to receive the title for services to music education.
The music specialist, who has had his compositions performed in the UK, Scandinavia, the US and Canada, has held a number of senior international teaching positions.
The 65-year-old, of Banchory, said: “Anyone who gets an honour like this recognises it is a great thing to receive.
“One does the job and gets the task done, but it is lovely to be recognised for it. It’s a great honour.”
Professor Stephens, who retired from Aberdeen University in 2015, was a founding member of the European Association for Music in Schools, where he represented Britain for a decade.
He composed two works for the late Elisabeth Klein – a famed international concert pianist.
