Hopes are growing that an historic Aberdeen students parade, which was cancelled last year, could soon spring back to life.
Aberdeen University Students Association is working to bring back the annual Torcher parade – a tradition which first started in 1889.
The popular city centre event did not go ahead in 2016 because the group could not agree traffic management plans with the council.
But, with talks under way to revive the parade, student bodies and prominent councillors have voiced their support for the scheme.
A spokesman for AUSA said: “The RAG (Raising and Giving) committee are in continuing talks regarding the Torcher Parade’s exciting return and hope to have some firm plans in place early this year.
“The Torcher Parade remains a very popular event and AUSA look forward to returning it to its former glory.”
Lord Provost George Adam added: “I’d be very pleased to see it return. There’s a long tradition of the Torcher Parade in the city and it’s something people look forward to and have enjoyed over the years.
“It would be great to see it back on Union Street.”
Council leader Jenny Laing said: “We are all very keen to bring the much-loved Torcher back. We look forward to working together with the students’ union and our other city partners to ensure it again becomes a much-anticipated highlight of the Aberdeen events calendar.”
