Popular Aberdeen nightclub closes after bid to open for longer rejected

A popular Aberdeen nightclub has closed, blaming the rejection of a 4am licence for the decision.
Redemption, previously The Priory, had applied to stay open an hour later at weekends to the city’s licencing board last year. The bid failed and was voted against, five to one.
Bosses at the popular nightclub have said the application was put forward so they could compete with casinos.
The club employed 50 staff and it is understood they are being redeployed to other venues the company owns.
A spokesman for The Epic Group said: “It’s not sustainable to continue trading at the moment.
“We are up against casinos who are getting 6am licences. We won’t be selling it but may look at the market to lease it out.”
The company have just completed £100,000 renovations at the club and had recently been given permission to build a beer garden at the Belmont Street venue.
