A police probe has been launched this morning after two separate Aberdeen flat fires were deemed to be deliberate and potentially linked.
Two fire crews were sent to a small blaze within a landing block of residential flats in North Anderson Drive at around 1.20am after an electrical cupboard was set alight.
Just ten minutes later, another two crews from Aberdeen Central were sent to the landing of another block of residential flats at Midstocket View.
Police say no one was hurt in either fire but warned such incidents can have fatal consequences.
Local Inspector Jon Millar said: “Enquiries are at an early stage, however we believe these incidents are linked and I would appeal for anyone with information to contact Police.
“Thankfully no one was injured and everyone accounted for, however I can’t stress enough the dangers of starting fires within residential properties – you don’t know how the situation will develop, and it goes without saying that the consequences of such reckless behaviour could have fatal consequences. It won’t be tolerated.
“I would urge anyone with information about these incidents, or anyone who saw anything suspicious in either area, to contact Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 to remain anonymous.”
SFRS Aberdeen City Group Manager Mike Dickson added: “Deliberate fires risk lives and those who set them often have no idea how they will develop or who will be affected.
“A fire is out of control from the moment it begins and flames, heat and smoke can all kill.
“Local fire crews will attend North Anderson Drive and Midstocket View in due course to offer safety advice and home safety visits.
“We encourage anyone with information on wilful fireraising to contact Police Scotland.”
