A man has been left seriously injured after a brutal attack in Aberdeen during the early hours.
The 27-year-old was walking on Clifton Road near the Northern Hotel at around 3.45am on Saturday when he was approached by another man.
He struck his victim on the face before heading in the direction of Lilybank Place.
The suspect is described as being of average height, stocky build and was wearing a dark coloured jumper and jeans.
Police Scotland have appealed for information to help track down the man responsible.
Constable Caileag Walker said: “This appears to have been an unprovoked attack which left a young man with serious injuries.
“Extensive inquiries are ongoing to trace the person responsible, including reviewing CCTV footage and house-to-house inquiries.
“In addition I would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time – taxi or delivery drivers, or people making their way home from a night out – and may have information to get in touch as soon as possible.
“Anyone with information should contact Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 if you would prefer to remain anonymous.”
