A north-east club which supports local people suffering from chest, heart or stoke conditions is urgently appealing for new volunteers to keep the project going.
The Contact Club in Fraserburgh is an independent charity affiliated with Chest, Heart and Stroke Scotland (CHSS).
The north-east group has been running for more than 30 years and gives people in the community with the conditions the opportunity to take part in a range of activities including outings, quizzes and curling.
Last night, community support worker Caroline Peter said: “Anyone with a chest, heart or stroke condition from Fraserburgh and the surrounding area can attend. Carers and family are also welcome.
“The group is in desperate need of one or two volunteers to help with organising group sessions and on the committee.
“In particular they are looking for an experienced treasurer. Otherwise it may be in danger of closing.”
The group meets fortnightly at the local hospital between 1.30pm and 3.30pm.
CHSS has vowed to help any volunteers with training if required.
CHSS aims to improve the quality of life for people affected by the different conditions through a mixture of medical research, public policy work, advice and support in the community.
According to the society, stroke is the main cause of disability in the community and chest illnesses of various kinds are the biggest reason people use the health service.
