Aberdeen Airport could be set to open up new routes to sunshine holiday destinations including Malta, Cyprus and Krakow.
The airport currently services 32 routes to destinations around the world but Community Planning Aberdeen hopes to raise that number to 42 by 2026/27.
Included in the list of potential new destinations are a number of popular holiday spots throughout Europe and up to 10 new locations could be added.
Carol Benzie, managing director of Aberdeen International Airport, said new leisure routes will be considered based on popular demand.
She said: “The more evidence we have that there is demand from the local population to go to certain destinations, the more we can build the business case to go to other airlines and say look at the amount of people in the region looking to go to that place.
“The big ticket items are the leisure destinations.
“There are a number of places such as Cyprus, Malta, Lithuania and Krakow which we have a big demand for and, in the future, are looking at.
“We don’t have a big population but we will always present the demand data to the airlines to generate some interest.
“If they have the capacity on their aircraft they may come into Aberdeen two or three times per week going forward.”
