Blue badge fraud: What P&J readers had to say

“It’s really unfair that people are able to cheat the blue badge system.

“My grandfather had a blue badge and he often struggled to get a parking space because of people who were cheating the system.”

Paula Cordiner, 47, baker, Mintlaw

“It is wrong that people are able to cheat the system with fake badges or other people’s badges.

“But more needs to be done by the authorities to stop people from cheating the system, they do it because they think they will get away with it.

“More money needs to be spent to try and stop people exploiting the system.”

Ron Stirton, 44, environmental operative, Aberdeen

“It’s terrible that people do this, there really needs to be strict punishments to stop people because doing this.

“I have no sympathy at all for people who get caught having gone to extreme lengths to fraudulently use a blue badge.”

Steven Boon, 49, Aberdeen, painter and decorator

“It’s not something I would ever think of doing myself and it’s sad that people abuse the system.

“The system is in place for a reason. For the sake of walking an extra 20 or 30 metres it’s really bad that people cheat the system .

“It’s a shame because the disabled parking places are badly needed as well.”

Emily Watson, 22, Old Aberdeen, student

“I don’t like people who exploit the system, but there are faults in the system.

“My mum has a blue badge and it would help if badges were registered to more than one car because she uses my car and my dad’s car.

“I know people who have been caught out for using the badge in a different car when it is not transferable.”

Kayleigh Alexander, 24, Fraserburgh, local government worker
