A major land and sea search is underway this morning after a kayaker went missing in Aberdeenshire.
Concerns were raised for the 35-year-old when he failed to return to his home in Laurencekirk from a trip to Portsoy Harbour at 10pm on Sunday.
Police say a Volkswagen van, believed to belong to the man, has been discovered parked at the harbour.
A rescue operation involving coastguard, police and four RNLI lifeboats began last night and is expected to resume shortly after 8am this morning.
A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Police Scotland, along with RNLI and coastguard, are currently at scene at Portsoy Harbour making search following the report of a 35-year-old male kayaker being overdue from a sea-kayaking trip.
“Lifeboats from Banff, Portsoy, Buckie and Macduff, along with 12 coastguard personnel and 5 police units are currently engaged in the search.
“Anyone with any information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101.”
